Prosthesis

Prosthesis

The apparatus used for the functioning of missing or damaged limbs of living beings is called prosthesis. Crowns, bridges or dental prostheses are made to replace missing, damaged teeth that cannot be saved by filling or aesthetically distressed teeth.
There are 2 types of dental prosthesis;
-Fixed prosthesis
-Removable prosthesis

1) Fixed Prosthesis

Fixed dentures can be made in the presence of sufficient amount of teeth or implants in the mouth. For some teeth, it can be the last resort before extraction, while for some teeth it can only be done with aesthetic expectations. Since it is attached to the tooth or implant with special adhesives, as the name suggests, it is fixed and cannot be removed whenever desired. There are different types of them.

Metal Supported Porcelain Veneers

Chromium-cobalt or chromium-nickel alloy is used as the substructure material. Porcelain is processed on the metal substructure.

-Cannot be made for those with metal allergy.
-Since the metal substructure does not transmit light, sufficient aesthetics cannot be provided.
-Over time, the substructure reacts with the gingiva and forms a dark coloured line at the junction of the prosthesis and the gingiva.
-The cost is low.

Zirconium Supported Porcelain Veneers

Zirconium alloy is used as the base material instead of metal. Porcelain is processed on the zirconium.
  • The colour of zirconium is white and transmits light and does not reflect from the bottom.
  • Aesthetic appearance close to natural teeth is obtained.
  • It is quite robust.
  • It is compatible with tissues and does not cause allergic reactions.
  • There is no discolouration on the gingival border.

Full Porcelain Veneers

They are porcelain veneers in which the substructure is not used.
  • It gives the best result aesthetically.
  • Its cost is higher than other crowns.

Protez1

Laminate Veneer

These prosthesis, also known as leaf porcelain teeth, can be applied to all teeth that are discoloured, slightly crowded (in cases where orthodontic treatment is not desired) or deformed and visible when smiling in order to eliminate aesthetic problems.
  • The damage to the tooth is minimal, very little abrasion is done.
  • It has no substructure, it is a very thin porcelain layer.
  • It requires sensitive work.
  • It is very harmonious, a very natural and aesthetic appearance is achieved.

2) Removable Prosthesis

In cases where there is no existing tooth in the mouth or it is not possible to make a fixed dentures, they are removable dentures that are supported by existing teeth or implants and soft tissue.

Total Prosthesis (Complete Prosthesis)

It is performed when there are no teeth in the mouth. They can be inserted and removed. They receive support only from bone and soft tissue, i.e. gums and palate. It is preferred in cases where implants cannot be made because it is not very useful.

Partial Prosthesis

It is made in the presence of natural teeth in the mouth. It is attached to the teeth with hooks called crochets or more aesthetic, sensitive holders added to the veneers. can be attached and removed when desired.

Implanted Removable Prosthesis

These are prostheses that fit on a small number of implants in the form of a key-lock to eliminate problems such as involuntary prosthesis removal, which can be seen in complete dentures.
