Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery is one of the specialities of dentistry. It is involved in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and deformities that may occur in the mouth, teeth and jaw area. It diagnoses and surgically treats diseases in the oral cavity, teeth and jaws with radiological evaluation (x-ray), clinical examination and biopsy when necessary.

Treats diseases of the soft tissues in the mouth (such as cheek, tongue, palate, lip), teeth, jaws and jaw joint with surgical intervention in the operating theatre environment under sterile conditions when necessary. Surgical interventions can be performed under local anaesthesia, sedation or general anaesthesia depending on the condition of the patient and the disease.

Will I feel pain during tooth extraction?

Since tooth extraction is performed under local anaesthesia, no pain is felt. Pressure may be felt and this is the minimum sensation felt for tooth extraction.

Will there be swelling and bruising on my face after the surgical procedure?

Swelling and bruising may occur in some cases as a result of surgical procedures. This is not unavoidable or unexpected. Antibiotics can be prescribed for such cases after some surgical procedures.

Will I bleed a lot after surgical procedures?

Bleeding may occur after the procedure, provided that it is not a mouthful. This bleeding should be swallowed instead of spitting it out, because each time it is spat out, bleeding may increase further and the coagulation of the surgical procedure area that has started to heal may be impaired.

Can I eat and drink comfortably after implant or extraction?

After surgical procedures, it is necessary to stay away from granular and very hard, very cold and very hot foods for a while. In terms of healing of the extraction or implant site, attention should be paid to the foods eaten and drunk for a while.

Can I smoke and drink alcohol after surgical procedures?

Smoking and alcohol consumption is not desirable for at least 1 week after surgical procedures. Smoking slows healing and causes the surgical procedure area to heal late.
