Endodontics

Endodontics is a branch of science that deals with infections originating from the root canal. In cases where the pulp is damaged in such a way that it cannot repair itself, the treatment applied is called root canal treatment. The pulp is a soft layer consisting of a vascular nerve packet located in the innermost part of the tooth. Usually, bacteria in broken teeth or deep caries cause inflammation of the pulp. If the inflamed or damaged pulp is not removed, it causes infection in the tooth and surrounding tissues and tooth extraction may be required.

Root canal treatment can be completed in one session if there is no infection or cyst formation in the pulp. Generally, the treatment takes 2 sessions because the tooth is infected. A single session of root canal treatment can last up to 45 minutes. The tooth canal should be cleaned and shaped very well in the first session. Local medication is applied to the cleaned area to kill the harmful microorganisms there. In the 2nd session of root canal treatment, if there is no inflammation in the canal, if there is no sensitivity in the patient’s tooth, if the x-ray is clean and there is no disorder in the surrounding tissue, the tooth is filled.
