What is Sinus Lifting?
The sinuses (maxillary) region refers to the cavities located just above the upper jaw, near our molars. These sinuses play a role in reducing the weight of the head and in producing sound correctly.
Generally, bone resorption occurs when teeth are lost in the posterior region. The distance between the sinus wall and the crest of the bone (the crest of the jaw and the highest point of the jawbone) shortens, and there is insufficient bone for implant placement. Sinus lifting is a surgical procedure to raise the floor of the sinus to increase the amount of bone that has been lost.
Types of Sinus Lifting
There are two types of sinus lifting: closed and open.
Open Sinus Lifting: This method is preferred when the size of the sinus is 3-4 mm or less and is used to promote bone formation.
Closed Sinus Lifting: This technique is applied in areas with a bone height of 5 mm or more, facilitating implant placement.
