Everything You Need to Know About Implants

What is an implant?

Dental implants are made of titanium, which is compatible with the human body. They are used to improve appearance and chewing function in cases of missing teeth. The implant is placed in the jawbone to create an artificial root.

Situations where implant treatment can be applied:

*This procedure can be applied in cases where there are no teeth in the upper or lower jaw, or when one or more teeth are missing in the mouth.

*If the patient does not require any additional procedures in the mouth, the implant can be placed immediately after a doctor's examination.

*In cases such as osteoporosis, bone grafts can be applied to improve bone condition before implant placement.

The implant manufacturing process is as follows:;

1. Inspection

*Initially, bone density measurements are taken. This is done using X-rays and 3D tomography. After an oral examination, bone suitability is checked. If there are no problems with the patient's bone condition, the implant to be used is decided upon.

2. Production phase

*The mouth is numbed with local anesthesia. Depending on the number of implants to be placed and the doctor's working system, the placement of one implant takes 15-20 minutes. After the implants are placed, surgical stitches are placed in the gum to complete the implant procedure.

3. Recovery phase

After implant placement, the healing time for the implant to fuse with the bone varies between 3 and 6 months depending on the patient. During this process, temporary prostheses can be made to improve appearance and chewing function. Follow-up appointments are provided to monitor the healing process.

4. After the recovery process

*After the healing process, the implants and their fusion with the bone are checked. If there are no problems, caps are placed to shape the gum tissue, which we call the gingiva. This is a minor surgical procedure. There is a 1-week post-gingiva application period.

5. Implant-supported prosthesis stage

*Following the gingiva stage, impressions are taken for the number of prosthetic teeth to be placed in the mouth. These impressions are sent to our laboratories, and the veneers are completed within 3 to 5 days, including preliminary trials, thus completing the treatment process.

Important considerations after implant treatment:

*You can eat 2 hours after the implants are placed, once the numbness wears off.

*Food and drinks should not be too hot or too cold. They should be consumed lukewarm.

* Foods that could affect the surgical site, such as hard and granular nuts and seeds, should be avoided.

*Smoking after implant surgery can prolong the healing process and worsen existing pain. Smoking should be strictly avoided for the first 24 hours.

*To maintain oral hygiene, brush your teeth gently with a soft brush 24 hours after brushing. Rinsing with salt water after 24 hours is also acceptable.

*Care should be taken to avoid any blows to the face.

*Absolutely do not spit for the first 24 hours. Spitting can cause bleeding or worsen existing bleeding.
